Up for auction is a Taylor DCSM from 1987. It is a Dan Crary Signature Model, and was made at the Taylor Guitars factory in Lemon Grove, CA. It’s a cutaway dreadnaught with a nicely aged Sitka Spruce top and East Indian Rosewood back and sides. The neck is dense/dark straight grained Honduran Mahogany with no cracks. This guitar sounds very articulate and is loud; perfect for acoustic jamming or bluegrass. It is currently set up for Mediums, with low action and plays really easy on the Taylor slim neck (1 11/16” at nut). The story behind this particular guitar is pretty interesting, Laura Lynch of the Dixie Chicks was the original owner, and she owned this DCSM for decades. It fell into disrepair from lack of use and was sent for repair where I was employed, and I ended up purchasing the guitar directly from her. I had it restored by the Taylor Guitars repair dept. Body crack repairs completed and professional set up work for my own use (these repairs and set up work were done within the last 2 years). I included a photo of Laura playing the guitar (see pic). This guitar has been played on tours etc. over the years and it shows, there are wear marks through the finish on the back, finish has chipped off the neck edges from wear, and there are dings in the sides of the peghead. You can see evidence of the repaired body cracks in the top and sides (darker lines). You can also see lacquer checking in the body and neck finish. There are no electronics installed. The original frets are still in the guitar and they’re in good shape, Taylor used a good, hard fret wire in this era, and the frets have lasted with minor wear. The original waffle-back tuners are in great shape, as is the bone nut. The original case is included. This is truly a very special, notable guitar and is ready to play!
