The elusive, famous DEEP 6.5"!
Posted for your immense pleasure is this Vintage Ludwig PRESERIAL COB Chrome Over Brass 6.5" X 14" "Super" Snare Drum with Chrome Over Brass Hoops. The precursor to the SUPRAPHONIC!
This is the FAMOUS ONE...the one that drum companies have been trying to imitate for 6 decades!! Check out the pictures. As you can see there are some scratches and typical denting on the shell (as is the case with the soft BRASS metal,) nothing too bad. There's some light wear on the hoops/hardware/badge. YES, it sounds THAT good!! Guaranteed!
How do I know it's Brass...easy, I took this drum deep into the wilderness and gently placed it in a crystal clear pond and the Keystone Badge immediately swung around and faced TRUE Magnetic North (no wait, no Supraphonics react to magnets, I'm starting again.) I held this Vintage Supra over a toilet bowl in the SOUTHERN Hemishpere, and yes, the water swirled counter-clockwise--indicating a Brass Shell. Also, when held up to a mirror, it has no reflection. OH...and it ALSO it's heavy as Hell! And there is NO PITTING!!! And just to be sure, I checked a lug hole with a file----BAM!!! BLINDING BRASS SHINING THROUGH. COB Shell.
Below is a soundfile of the exact snare for sale:
Here are the glorious specs: Vintage Ludwig Preserial early 1960s, Chrome Over Brass 6.5" X 14" Supraphonic Snare Drum, Chrome Over Brass Hoops allow the Brass shell to breathe. Keystone badge WITHOUT Serial #, Round Knob muffler works perfectly, Supersmooth P-83 Throwoff works perfectly!! Of course there is NO pitting on the shell, but as you can see there are some light scratches and dings, nothing that remotely affects the tone. Light use on the hoops/hardware. This snare is the litmus test by which all other metal snares are judged. You play a regular Supraphonic and you say, "Wow that sounds great." And then you play this drum NEXT to the regular Supraphonic and you say "Ooooooohhhhh....OK, THAT'S why these COBs are famous." It really sounds THAT FAT! Amazing low end. Great punch! If you own a studio or do a lot of recording, this is a MUST HAVE. PERFECT for ANY style. Great live and AMAZING the mic. And this drum will ONLY INCREASE IN VALUE as the seasons pass. So do yourself a favor and grab this  FAMOUS, Vintage PRESERIAL Ludwig CHROME OVER BRASS 6.5" X 14" Supraphonic Snare Drum. And hang onto it!!
