Vintage 1950's Sinclair Miniature Highland Bagpipes African Blackwood Catalin
Estimated price for orientation: 599 $
Category: Bagpipes
Class:
Description Brand: Sinclair Country/Region of Manufacture: United Kingdom
This is set of miniature bagpipes by Sinclair. They are marked "SINCLAIR LEITH" at the top of the chanter and "SCOTLAND" and what looks like a signature near the sole of the chanter. I think these are African Blackwood. The mounts are catalin or a similar imitation ivory that turns orange with time. The bag is new, custom made by pipe maker Brad Angus, as is the bag cover. It's slightly larger than the original sheepskin which was very small and dried up.The tassel and cords are original.I was told that these were never used, and when I had the bag and reeds replaced, it was played only about five times, so it's essentially unused. It's basically a practice chanter with drones. It works and plays, but you may want or adjust or replace the reeds to your preferred playing pressure. There is a box with old reeds and a receipt which came with the set. It doesn't represent the sale of the pipes, but I was told by the original owner that it was purchased at this establishment at the same time the other items on the receipt were purchased. It's an interesting time-capsule of a set of pipes.
