Courtois AC169 Baritone Horn in B flat (lacquer)Product DescriptionThis is a second-hand Courtois 169 B flat 3-valve compensating baritone horn (serial number 20547), in the region of twenty years old and previously the property of a town band in Cambridgeshire who part-exchanged it with us for new instruments. We have subsequently carried out an extensive service on it, improving it cosmetically as well as lapping in the valves and renewing serviceable parts such as valve springs, soft stops and water-key corks. In spite of its apparent age, the instrument is in good cosmetic condition, with only light marking to the lacquer commensurate with wear and tear through normal use. It is offered in its original case, which is well-used, tatty inside, but still serviceable, having had its lining patched up, plus a Courtois B1 mouthpiece, again well-used but serviceable. This band purchased a whole set of Courtous band instruments in the 1990s and have been slowly part exchanging them with Rosehill for new models - as grants and budgets permit. So that we may offer you the best possible price, please send us a message via eBay or give us a call on the contact numbers below.Condition
The instrument has been actively used in the band, but, following the full service and internal clean, is in good working order. Physically and cosmetically it is very good for the age. The lacquer is largely intact and there are no significant dents. It plays very well indeed, and still has a full sound and life in the tone.Following the full service in our workshop (value £220), the valves are fast, quiet and smooth, and all the tuning slides are properly fitted and move freely. It has new springs, felts, and water key corks. There is some scratching around the beading on the bottom bow and branches, and some of the tuning slide bows, but this is minor for the age.The case is functional, but tatty inside. It is such a good instrument, it might be worth considering one of our new Sovereign style hard cases (from Germany). Ask for information if you are interested.Returns/WarrantyIf on initial inspection you are disappointed in any way, you may return it and receive a full refund. You are most welcome to visit and test the instrument in our playing room prior to making a commitment. We will offer the instrument with a full mechanical warranty for twelve months. The plating on older instruments cannot be guaranteed. It was founded by Trevor Austin (father of Paul) who was previously a euphonium player in the Horse Guards (and played on horseback at the Queen’s Coronation). Following long service in the Salvation Army as a player and conductor, his reputation led to requests to supply instruments around the UK and overseas. Rosehill is now led by Trevor’s son Paul, who was awarded a Government contract in 1999, and since that time Rosehill has been a supplier of musical instruments to Her Majesty’s Military bands. We also service and repair brass band and military band instruments at our workshops in Beaconsfield, many of which are then supplied overseas.
