On offer is a unique entry into the sub-mixer *summing box category of pro-audio and Eurorack modular mixing. Here we have a 16ch British sub-mixer called the Pinmix *from Hinton Instruments ( hinton-instruments.co.uk ). It sub-mixes audio and control voltages together. It was custom made in 2012. It uses pins to tap the input signals, creating output busses as needed. If the box design looks familiar to another submixer on the market, it is an indication of the designer's pedigree. Graham Hinton is super-knowledgable and accommodating. Unit specs out at *frequency flatness up to around 90kHz which means its totally boss. I ran a Manley mic-pre as my base sounds with full satisfaction for its magic. I've photographed a simple mix setup. The tool requires a bit of training to understand which I will herein try to do. The cabling tips and pins are color coded (blue, green, red, black & yellow). The "input trimmers" are line-level inputs (no mic-pre) and are numbered 1-16. The pots go to mute at counterclockwise most position and I believe unity gain around 2 o'clock. The grid looking thing is the matrix where the pins go. The pins tap the inputs to outputs to create busses. It's not like a console where there are set number of busses like 1-8 that you hit the button to assign them out. Use the pins. The outputs are lettered A-S. So if input #1 is to go to ouput B, insert a pin on the matrix at position 1B. The inputs can be tapped into as many outputs as needed, creating flexible mixes. The pin technology is solid and the maths are correct. In the setup, an input signal is shown going to input #1 (blue cable with black tip on XLRf cable included). In row 1 on the matrix, pins are inserted into outputs B (modular black), E (VU meter red), K (Aux mix on red wire, green tip and pin) M (final output red wire XLRm orange). So one volume controls level going to these outputs. (Note: Input 2 is wired for normal to input 1 so you can tap input 1 through input channel 2 with different volume if needed.)Included for free is the Frequensteiner filter modular. (Note: no power supply is provided for the modular filter.) The modular output (red) is plugged into input #7. In row 7 on the matrix, the modular input is tapped to go to output F (VU meter red), and final output N (red wire black tip XLRm going to two track, *power amps or whereeverthefudge.)A third sub-mix is shown in the same fashion using blank XLR cabling starting at output K and returning to input #11. #11 is tapped for C (Aux VU blue) and M&N (main outs red wire black and orange XLRm) This is shown to stir the imagination here to insert any professional unit like compressor/limiters, fuzz boxes, delays, etc. The ouputs are 1k ohm impedance. So in conclusion, shown here is example wiring where a single mono input is output with stereo parallel compressio and HP phase introduction on a single channel. Add some of your favorite heat and the wickedness can be reached for tuning. The VU meters are one of a kind custom vintage Sifam. They have two inputs available for each channel (main and aux) switchable between the two. *Check your levels on your Eurorack modules before sending them out to Pro Tools! plenty of Eurorack cabling is providedThe *opening bid price of $2,250 is reasonable. The cost and time put into this unit and custom cabling was much more. *Ground Shipping will include $100 for packing + standard delivery charge.
