Up for auction is a vintage (serial number 574262) Holton H-279 "Farkas" Double French Horn. This instrument was developed and designed by Philip Farkas, is in very good condition, and plays very well. The valves move well with very good compression, and the slides all move of course. The horn started life as a standard Holton 179 double french horn, and has been upgraded to a screw bell configuration, which means that it is now a Holton 279. The bell rings are standard Alexander threads, so the bell flare can be swapped out with most replacement flares available on the market if the player wishes to try different bells. As for the aesthetic condition of this horn, there are a few small pings throughout the horn, and etching throughout the instrument. The bell flare in particular is etched, but as I mentioned before it can be replaced if desired. The engraving on the leadpipe reads "Holton U.S.A. H 179", and the bell reads "Holton Elkhorn Wis.". The minor imperfections are visible in the pictures, and none of them affect the playability of the horn. This instrument has been professionally cleaned in our shop and repaired to full playability. This horn is not lacquered; therefore, this horn is finished in pure metal, and may have to be polished every few months, if played often. Fingerprints should be wiped off after use if the player wished for the horn to stay as shiny as it is now; if they are not wiped off then the horn will develop a lovely patina.  This instrument comes with a Gard brand softshell case in very good condition, and a mouthpiece in good condition.
