1955(?) Gibson Southern Jumbo acoustic guitar with hard case. I am not a Gibson expert, but will tell you all that I know about it. I bought it a few years ago from a gentleman who told me that he had taken it to a couple of experts and that they had concluded that it was a 1955. I recall that there was some dispute about the "Made in USA" stamp on the back of the headstock, with one of them stating that this is the way they were stamped for export to Canada. I've provided pictures of the inside and outside, including all numbers and markings. Draw your own conclusions. That kind of thing doesn't matter much to me. What does matter to me is that it is a legit vintage Gibson Southern Jumbo that plays great and has a nice balanced tone and nice low action. It's very easy to play. The bridge saddle is fairly low, but the previous owner's luthier stated that it does not currently need a neck reset, and I am inclined to agree. It's quite stable as it is, and hasn't changed a bit during my ownership. I see what looks like a top crack repair near the edge of the upper bout, but it's tight and stable. The tuners have been replaced, as has the bridge plate, but the rest appears to be original apart from the finish. It looks as though the instrument had been refinished at one point, but that the clear coat and some of the underlying finish had been removed from the body. I have been playing it just like this for the whole time I've had it, and see no reason to change it. It's a super cool-looking guitar with a lot of vintage mojo. I've brought it to open mics and jam sessions and it always starts a conversation. It records very well, with a nice balance of highs, mids, and lows. It's a great gig guitar with the installed K&K pickup, and you don't need to worry about it because it's not a $10k example with perfect original finish. It's the ideal guitar for someone who has a J-45 or Southern Jumbo that is too nice to take out of the house (or even a Collings, etc.). You can take this one out and not worry about it! Comes with a new-ish black non-factory hard case. I love this guitar and never planned to sell it, but I need to raise some funds quickly so it's up for a quick 5-day auction with no reserve. That's pretty much the extent of my knowledge about it, but feel free to ask additional questions. West coast buyers may need to add additional shipping, but I will charge actual cost only (no handling charges). I haven't had too many other vintage Gibsons to compare it to, but I did have two J-50s from the early 1960s and this instrument sounded and played better.
