This pre-owned guitar is the tenth instrument released from the Gibson Custom Shop Collectors Series guitars: the 1968 Goldtop Deluxe owned and played throughout the career of Boston's Tom Scholz. As an inventor and natural-born tinkerer, it's no wonder that Tom had to modify the guitar to do exactly what he needed it to do (and look like as well). Scholz worked with Gibson Custom to recreate the guitar exactly how it looked as it did when it was played during the recording fo Boston's first album; with its stripped finish revealing the bare maple top, P-90 neck pickup, and a lean and mean DiMarzio double-cream Super Distortion in the bridge. Every ding, dent, and nuance of the original guitar looks to be replicated by the Gibson Custom Shop even up to the frets going over the binding and screw holes left from changing the tuner keys. The guitar has a chunky neck shape that's similar to the '58 profile, and we're absolutely loving the tone of the P-90 and Super Distortion. It's got a bright and articulate tone in the bridge, with added fatness in the middle position, and of course the classic P-90 growl when the neck pickup is on its own. This Collectors Choice #10 is #47 out of only 300 guitars made worldwide. It's still in excellent condition with no major signs of previous play time to it, and includes the original case along with certificate of authenticity.Questions? We're here to help!
