1940 Kay "Model 89" 3/4 upright bassThe Kay model 89 was built by Kay for the Gretsch company, and listed as the "tone king" in their catalogs. Pencil serial number #6864 dates circa 1940 or possibly earlier. Heavily built bass noticeably heavier than a Kay C1. Solid carved neck, maple board, original tailpiece, tuners. Newer bridge, and end pin.It has a few chips around the edges that have been filled in (see pic). Original finish shows some fading. Overall excellent condition for a 77 year old bass.
