Here for sale is my 1966 Fender Mustang. This guitar plays great. I have owned it for the last 13 years. I used to play this guitar quite a bit the first few years I had it, but it has not been getting much use the last few years, so I guess it’s time to move on. History: Far from original, I bought it with the 3rd pickup routing already done to it. Original pickguard that had been routed for the extra pickup, and an extra 2-way switch. I do not know what the previous owners goal or vision was for this, but it was a mess when I bought it. I got it working by eliminating the 2-way switch, and wiring the middle pickup in with the bridge pickup. Non-original pickups. Non-original tuners. All chrome hardware, pickguard, neck, selector switches, and pots are original. It’s a cool, grunge/alternative/punk type guitar, with all the great features of a vintage Fender. It plays just like a vintage Mustang, the neck is FANTASTIC and the body is light. Finish was stripped before I got it, from what I can see, it was originally Daphne Blue. I had plans to one day come up with a workable configuration to use the mods, but I just don’t have time and I have other guitar interests now. Body: The body has been routed for a 3rd pickup, and an extra switch. Done poorly. It is not pretty behind the pickguard, not too brutal, but not professional by any means. Has dings and dents, she’s been around, but nothing major. The tone does not seem affected by the extra body routes. I believe the wood is poplar. Pickguard is original pearloid 3-ply. Hardware: Chrome hardware is all original. Shows normal wear for 51 year old metal.Neck: Maple neck, veneer Rosewood fretboard. Stamped 16SEP66B. The neck is beautiful. Still has plenty of nitro finish left on it, has that great vintage Fender feel. Frets are great, and neck is nice and straight, plays wonderful. Logo looks great too. The original Kluson tuners have been replaced at some point.Electric: OK, the electrical was nuts on this when I got it, and I did spend some time straightening it out, but I didn’t spend the extra time to make it perfect. It had alot of extra wires crammed in that weren’t connected, the solder joints were terrible, and it was wired in no way that made sense... it barely worked. So I simplified it, basically wired it back to factory Mustang specs, bypassed the 2-way switch, cleaned up the bad connections, and just wired the middle pickup to do what the bridge does. This setup was going fine until the switches started acting up. They are the original 1966 switches. As of now, the guitar only works on the bridge/middle setting. It needs new switches. Volume and Tone pots also date to 1966.All in all, a great playing vintage guitar. Has alot of potential for many different combinations. Needs switches, and will be 100% back in action.
