1966 GRETSCH ANNIVERSARY HOLLOWBODY ELECTRIC GUITAR IN TWO TONE TAN SUNBURST
PLEASE CALL US TOLL FREE FOR AN IN-HAND DESCRIPTIONASK FOR JOHN1-800-800-0087 What makes this guitar special: This is an interesting Anniversary model that has seen its share of action throughout its life. It has its share of nicks and other various love marks, but is still very clean considering its age. The neck has been reset and has also been refretted, so the frets have quite a bit of life remaining in them, and makes the guitar surprisingly playable for its age. Its tone bar bracing creates a wonderfully resonant woody character that adds a vintage charm to clear, clean HiLo’Tron pickups. Featuring a setup from our in-house technician, this guitar is a great vintage workhorse instrument that will continue to play awesomely for many more years.Condition: The guitar is in good condition overall. It does possess various nicks, dings, dents, chips, and scratches, as well as some fine weather checking and finish wear, but is still in great shape given its age. Like many of the guitars from this era, the binding is starting to deteriorate but is not actively chipping or falling off. The replaced frets are in excellent shape with tons of life remaining. The neck is comfortable and the truss rod functions. The guitar has had its neck reset at some point in its life, as well as a headstock repair. Both repairs are structurally stable and pose no further issues. The original Gretsch Space Control Bridge was replaced with a Tune-o-Matic as some point as well, and is not included with the instrument. Body: Single-cutaway double bound hollow maple body with arched maple top and Two Tone Tan finish. Gretsch “G” tailpiece. Unoriginal Tune-o-Matic bridge. Unoriginal switch tip. Missing Pickguard. Two tone bar bracing.
Neck: Medium thickness C shape neck (.82” at the 1st fret, .98” at the 12th fret). Bound rosewood fingerboard with thumbnail fret markers. Fully re-fretted, 21 frets. 1 11/16” nut width. Replaced nickel strip tuning machines. Electronics: Dual HiLo’Tron pickups. Individual volume controls for the bridge and neck pickups, as well as a master volume control. 3-way pickup selector toggle switch. 3-way tone toggle switch. Weight: 6 lbs. 15.5 oz.
Playability/Sound: The C shape neck is comfortable in hand and plays easily from top to bottom. Because the original bridge was replaced, the action sits a touch higher even with the bridge at set at its lowest point, but it is by no means unplayable and sits very close to Martin’s factory set-up measurements. The HiLo’Tron pickups provide a clean and nicely rounded upper mid-range with a lovely mild sustain and woody tone from its hollow body construction. Case: Includes chipboard case.
