VG To Restore Circa 1894 CONN Worcester Mass DOUBLE BELL EUPHONIUM
Estimated price for orientation: 750 $
Category: Euphoniums
Class:
Description
This is a Conn double bell euphonium, made in Worcester, Mass, circa 1894- serial number 28XXX. The instrument is in very good shape for a restoration. It appears that there are 2 sets of original removable tubes, one on each of the main slides, that are there to put the instrument into low pitch. Take them out and you're in high pitch. The instrument has never been taken apart before. Other than some scattered modest dents and the bent up (no cracks) large bell rim and a slight bend to the small bell, the only real damage is that one of the two main tuning slides has been bent somewhat nastily- see photo. Only missing original parts: 1 water key; 1 long and 1 short straight brace- see photos; the correct tightening screw for the small bell receiver. Remarkably, the leadpipe, receiver, and brace from receiver are all still original and largely unscathed. All caps top and bottom, and even the finger buttons are original. Top caps screw off easily (bottoms need to be loosened); slides on numbers 1, 2, and 3 valves are free. Pistons are in very good original condition, valve guides still good too; they move easily in their casings, not slapped out. Using just a little Al Cass oil I checked the compression on #2 and #3. It was, surprisingly, real strong. No case.
