Fine antique french violin of the Caussin school made circa 1870.Fine antique 19th century french violin of the Caussin school made circa 1870. The top is made of two parts of spruce, and shows very regular grain lines slightly widening towards the edges. The back is made of two pieces of nicely flamed maple, the curl horizontal. The ribs and head are of the same wood. The violin was made in copy at the time, and shows original artificial signs of age which have combined with natural ones since then. The varnish is of an orange-brown color, nicely worn at places. The corners are rounded. The beautiful head has been originally grafted on the neck, as it was in use in the Caussin school at the time. On the inside back can be found a very worn italian label.The violin is in a very well preserved condition, with some wear but no repairs. The violin has been set up with a rosewood and ebony tailpiece, the matching chinrest, Thomastik Dominant strings and a Despiau bridge. The sound is of the highest concert level, warm and mature, powerful, projective and brilliant.Dimensions are the following :Body length : 354 mm.Upper bouts : 167 mm.Middle bouts : 110 mm.Lower bouts : 206 mm.The violin will be sent in a new rectangular case of quality.
