This G&L USA ASAT Classic Semi-Hollow is just stunning! It is outfitted with G&L's great MFD bridge and neck pickups, known for both its sparkle and rock-friendly punch. This ASAT Semi-Hollow is very light Swamp Ash - so pretty, but lighter than most every other SA guitar I have seen. Comes with a stunning Classic 3-Tone Sunburst Finish and tortoise pickguard - really nice combination. This G&L ASAT Classic Semi-hollow features: • Three tone sunburst on Swamp Ash, weighs only 6.4 pounds • Satin finish maple neck • Rosewood fingerboard • Medium jumbo frets • Schaller split and drilled tuners • Tortoiseshell pickguard • G&L MFD ASAT “ashtray” bridge pickup assembly, brass saddles • G&L MFD Classic ASAT neck pickup • Volume and tone controls • Plek laser guided fret finishing • Deluxe tolex hardshell case and Case Candy • Made in Fullerton, CA • List price: $2500We've had a few Swamp Ash guitars in our day, and we're always excited when a light weight one comes through our doors. Weighing in at a only a cool 6.4 pounds, this ASAT Classic Semi-Hollow is a delight to pick up and it really sings before you even plug it in. But of course, you'll want to plug it in! The ASAT Classic MFD bridge pickup is well known for it's strong output, excellent clarity, and ability to both twang and rock. The matching Neck Pickup is more reserved in nature, the ASAT MFD bridge pickup responds with a piano-like low end attack complemented with shimmering highs. The ASAT's solid output also makes it a great lead pickup, and it absolutely loves overdrive pedals, creating harmonically complex rock crunch that is bristling with overtones. Adding a small amount of delay "puffs up" the notes nicely, creating fat tones that are thick like a humbucker, but still retaining characteristic single coil clarity. If you like the "idea" of a Tele® neck pickup but never seem to actually like them, you'll really dig the ASAT Classic MFD neck pickup. Full up, it's clean, bold, with a very even response across the spectrum. Low notes are big and round with a generous percussive feel, and the high end is clean but smooth. Roll off the volume just a tad and the classic round, slightly hollow Tele neck tone appears, but with better clarity, less compression and a more satisfying attack. This is a pickup that does not necessarily reveal its most interesting tones full up, and players will be rewarded handsomely for using their volume and tone controls. When gain is applied the MFD neck pickup produces smooth lead tones that are more creamy than crunch, but don't get flabby or mushy. As you pile up the gain, the semi-hollow design helps to maintain midrange clarity and openness. The ASAT Classic bridge is a Tale of Two Pickups. Played clean it is sparkly with plenty of twang on tap, and there is a slight "give" to the attack that lends the notes a nice springy feel. Hit it with some gain and this pickup becomes an awesome classic rock machine with gobs of overtones, harmonic complexity, and great sustain aided by the string-through body and brass saddles. It's truly great lead pickup; more articulate than a humbucker, and enough bottom end to lay down tight defined rhythms. Both pickups together produce a full, sweet chime that is spot-on for rhythm, picking, or faux-Rickenbacker tones that are more dimensional and less anemic. The G&L Classic ASAT Semi-Hollow is really like two guitars in one, possibly three. It can easily jump the divide between jazz, country and blues with the flick of a pickup switch. And with your favorite stomp box it's not adverse to dishing out some great classic rock crunch. It's killer for Wedding/General Business/Cover players that need to run the range from mellow to mean without carrying a slew of guitars. Excellent Condition! Awesome tone and output! Original case included. Why select and ASAT Semi-Hollow? Besides light weight, the semi-hollow design has some very nice benefits. Tonally, it balances the midrange of the guitar, the select, light, Swamp Ash Body adds a touch more sweetness to the high end and makes the guitar less "peaky". The attack is bit softer than a solid body ASAT, but the MFDpickups are very touch responsive and there is more than enough bite available just by varying picking style. Overall it's a great blend of richness and cluck with a leaner midrange and good clarity. If maximum attack and punch is your game, stick with solid Alder; but for a wide range of styles the Semi-Hollow is all good. The neck is the former Classic #1 C, the standard neck profile from the post-2000 era. With a 12" radius and 1 5/8" nut width, they are very smooth playing necks that have a medium taper and a bit more body than a typical American Fender. We like the profile, and unless you have very small hands, the fuller shape provides great hand support as you move up the neck.In building the ASAT Classic, G&L has solved some of the love/hate issues with this classic design: Mainly, a more consistent and versatile neck pickup, and a bridge pickup with power and sparkle that won't slice your head off. The Semi Hollow design just makes it "more better" in a lot of ways. It is possible to improve on a classic, and this is one of those times.Thinning out my personal guitars as I downsize my shop. This is an excellent guitar available for way less than retail. Slight fret wear visible but not enough to need a fret dress. Was just set up, rosewood cleaned and oiled in my shop. Bought from the original Canadian owner. Their loss is your gain.
