This Bobkat features DeArmond gold foil pickups (these ones in particular have silver diamond grill covers), a cream single ply pickguard that closely followed the body's offset contours, and a Brazilian rosewood floating bridge. It's hard to match the Bobkat for feel, tone, and great playability, and this example is very soulful and resonant with a loud acoustic voice that translates well through the gold foils. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with low action and a new set of roundwound 10-46 strings, this guitar delivers an incredible range of tones and weighs a mere 6lbs 2oz.Currently becoming some of the hottest vintage pickups on the market (with good reason!), the DeArmond gold foil is a unique design among vintage single coils, with strong output and a clear, dynamic quality that sparkles and chimes. These pickups have the percussive nature and definition of your favorite acoustic guitar while maintaining the midrange sweetness and focus of your favorite electric. The neck has a chunky C profile with 1 3/4" nut width and original frets that show only the lightest wear down on the crowns of frets 1-3 and virtually no wear up the neck. The headstock sports the silk-screened Silvertone logo as well as the original set of Waverly open back tuners, which are intact and turn smoothly. On the body, all of the electronics work as they should, with individual Volume and Tone controls for each pickup and a three-way pickup selector toggle. The neck pickup has just been professionally rewound, while the bridge pickup retains its original windings. The wiring harness is otherwise untouched, with a clean Jan 11th 1965 date code on the underside of the pickguard, and CTS pots that date to the 48th week of 1964. The four mini black DeArmond bell knobs are also present on the small 1/8" pot shafts.Cosmetically, this guitar is in very good overall condition, and the original black nitro lacquer finish is intact. There are a few faint finish scratches in the lacquer on the back, as well as one spot of finish which has flaked off near the rear strap button. Other minimal wear includes some assorted small dings on the edges of the body and a bit of light surface rust on the chrome tailpiece.
The original gray chipboard case is included.
