Lauritz Melchior Embossed Sheet Music Albums and Signed Music CONDITION/INFO: Passed down in a family library these are three red sheet music books labeled Richard Strauss Lieder - Album Band I, II, and III respectively. Lauritz Melchior name is embossed in gold lettering in the top right corner and stamped again on the interior page. Books are intact but have various exterior stains to the leather-like material on the exterior. Pages are not yet coming out, but binding needs taping on interior. There are family ex-library stamps inside as shown. Inside the Band books was found two Melchior signed copies of Richard Strauss Heimliche Aufforderung the Lover's Pledge OP 27. No. 3 High (Universal Edition No. 5443a). Signatures as pictured. One copy is taped on the outside edge, one on the interior bottom corner. Both have his notations inside. Water staining mark in one that does not affect use. The set also includes sheet music for Richard Strauss Allerseelen All Soul's Day OP. 10 No. 8 High (Universal Edition 5427a) in very good condition. Richard Strauss Lieder Songs (Boosey and Hawkes) in good condition with the name of a tenor who sang it at the top - Laufkotter). Richard Strauss Tram Durch Die Dammerung Dream in the Twilight OP. 29 No. 1 High (Universal Edition 5445a in good condition. Signed copies of sheet music alone usually go for $500 or more each! The books are very old and very rare, but I cant put an exact date...Early to mid 1900's. Background: Lauritz Lebrecht Hommel Melchior 3/20/1890 - 3/19/1973 was a and later American opera singer. He was the pre-eminent Wagnerian Hedentenor of the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s and has since come to be considered the quintessence of his voice type. Late in his career, Melchior appeared in movie and musicals and on radio and television. He also made numerous recordings. In Denmark the young Melchior was a boy soprano and amateur singer before starting his first operatic vocal studies under Paul Bang at the Royal Opera School in Copenhagen at the age of 18 in 1908.
