Here is a vintage (serial number 555049) Holton H-378 Double French Horn. This is a yellow brass Kruspe wrap Bb/F full double french horn. It is in very good condition, and plays very well. The valves move well with good compression and the slides all move of course. As for the aesthetic condition of this horn, there are a few small dings and pings, and some isolated scratching and pitting throughout the horn. The engraving on the bell reads "Holton Elkhorn Wis." and the leadpipe reads "H 378". The imperfections are visible in the pictures, and none of them affect the playability of the horn. This instrument has been professionally cleaned in our shop, and repaired to full playability. This horn is not lacquered; therefore fingerprints should be wiped off after use if the player wishes for the horn to stay as shiny as it is now; if they are not wiped off then the horn will develop a lovely patina. This instrument comes with a somewhat worn hardshell case, and a mouthpiece in good condition.How the horn plays: Light, warm and full sound. The tone is smooth. The Bb and F side timbres match well, with the Bb being slightly brighter. The horn is quick and responsive. It has a good dynamic range. The low and high registers speak well.
