Here is an excellent example of one of the vintage Kay upright acoustic bass violins most sought after by professional jazz, bluegrass and classical bassists. This is a Kay “C-1” bass made in 1951 by the Kay Musical Instrument Company.  Serial # is 26226.  It is in excellent condition with a solid, straight neck, no visible cracks, dents and plays very well with the characteristic strong deep, full, rich tone we expect from the Kay C-1 bass. There is one minor side scrap shown in the pictures. This instrument was well taken care of as there are only a few scratches, please view all the pictures for a complete description. The person I purchased it from said her Grandfather had played it in a Jazz Band in New Orleans.  One of the strings has broken but is still there.  The Chicago based Kay Musical Instrument Company was founded in or about 1934 by businessman Henry “Kay” Kuhrmeyer. In 1937 Kuhrmeyer decided to produce cellos and basses in his Chicago factory in response to increasing difficulty importing instruments from Hitler’s  Germany. The first Kay built bass model, the C-1, emerged in 1939 and was produced until the company was sold in 1969. Pickup is welcome or I will help the buyer arrange for shipping. Payment must be received within 3 days of end of auction.
