GRETSCH 6071 BASS GUITAR February, 1968 HISTORY OF THIS GUITAR (so claimed by the previous owner). According to the former owner (Toronto, Canada) of this bass guitar, it was owned by Bruce Palmer, the original bassist with Buffalo Springfield et al. The story given to me certainly seems plausible but I have no way to verify it. Here it is: “The bass came into Palmer’s possession in the summer of 1969 when he ‘resurfaced’ in California and played bass with Crosby, Stills & Nash for two weeks (Wiki). After that short stint, Palmer returned to Toronto where he played in several groups and made an album. It was passed around to several owners until the mid-1980’s when my seller got it in a trade. He held onto it until 1999 (because of its ‘cool case’) when he sold it to me.” Have a look at the case. It was hand painted, supposedly, by Palmer or someone around him in 1969 soon after he got it. Certainly it is “psychedeliczed” enough to make that part of the story completely believable. Do I believe this story? Maybe. Do I not believe this story? Maybe. But the story was irrelevant to my purchase of this great vintage bass guitar 15 years ago. I bought it because it is a great playing and great sounding guitar with a super cool case. And it was already relic’d. Details of this guitar. 1. 16” Single cutaway hollow body. 2. Body is 2” thick. 3. Single special design bass pickup (Gretsch). 4. Adjustable 4 string space controllable bridge. 5. Built in “muffler”. 6. Pad on back. 7. Red grain mahogany finish. 8. Painted fake “f holes” 9. Top and bottom thumb rests. 10. Van Gent tuners. 11. Binding around body. Condition of this guitar. It has been rock and roll relic’d. It is worn everywhere it is supposed to be worn. On the back above the pad (the folks who played this bass played it with the neck up). The binding is broken in several places and will most likely keep falling out. Fret board is worn but still plays great. Back of neck is left had worn but in wide pattern so the guys who played it went all over the fretboard. Finish is faded to light mahogany from its original red stain. In short, it is perfect. It is one of those guitars that settles into your hands and hugs your body as soon as you strap it on. And it plays smoothly and easily giving a good solid thumping tone. And it comes so soon after Baldwin bought Gretsch that it still maintains the Gretsch quality. Buy this guitar for the case if nothing else. It is a piece of original art and most likely worth as much as the guitar. Please remember to read our policies and procedures listed below. The guarantee. 1. The guitar is in VERY GOOD cosmetic condition and is as described in this ad. 2. The guitar is in fully operational condition. 3. Buyer has 48 hrs. to inspect the guitar or have it inspected. Any defects, damage, misrepresentations or other problems must be reported within that time period in writing to the Seller. 4. In the case of damage during shipment, Buyer shall immediately inform seller of such damage and will maintain all original packing materials and box for inspection by the transportation company. 5. If other problems are discovered, Seller will either arrange for repair etc. at a location near the Buyer or request that the Buyer return the guitar to the Seller (Seller will reimburse Buyer for cost of shipment of guitar back to Seller). 6. Seller will correct indicated problems and ship the guitar back to the Buyer within 7 days of receiving it. 7. In the event that the guitar cannot be repaired or replaced with a similar item from Seller’s inventory, the Seller will give the Buyer the option of a Credit against current or future inventory of Seller or refund.
