For sale... my absolute favorite piece of vintage outboard... the holy grail compressor... Universal Audio 1176 REV A "Blue Stripe". I won't insult your intelligence with back story or additional hyperbole about its importance. Here's what you need to know. Its serial 323, so Putnam would have signed off on its completion himself. Its lived nearly its entire life in 2 legendary studios in Houston, TX. Has been used on countless classic recordings by artists ranging in diversity from ZZ Top to the Ghetto Boys to Justin Timberlake. Just on the top 10 single "Ayo Technology" alone, it was in the vocal chain for Justin, 50 Cent, and Timbaland.18 months ago, it was fully serviced, recapped, and calibrated to original UA standards by former UREI technician Dave Kulka at Studio Electronics in Burbank, CA. Additionally, the low noise 'LN' Modification was added, which makes the signal to noise ratio more desirable and similar to the later revisions (REV C and later). This is of course, INCREDIBLY RARE. He also installed Sprague 'Type D" caps for the 4 main power supply capacitors and NOS bridge-T input pot, as per Putnam's original specifications. Check out the appraisal and detailed service letter in the pics above. The unit also has premium Neutrik connections on pigtails for XLR I/O.Cosmetically, it is in very good condition for a unit of its age. The front panel is virtually flawless save for rack rash which is fully obscured by modern rack washers. The rest of the enclosure has a patina consistent with its age.No piece of gear has ever hurt this much to part with. It is simply the best there is: classic, but perfectly suited for modern record production. But our third child is on his way, and he will most likely care less about the perfection of my drum and vocal sounds than he does about whether or not he has sufficient food and diapers. So its not really 'my loss, your gain' as much as 'my gain, your gain'.NO INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING, USA ONLY - Thanks for the understanding. Payment must be received within 24 hours of the auction close. Please feel free to text me with any other questions or concerns (423) 377 4672.
Thank you and good luck:)
