Late 1940s To Early 1950s KAY Electric Archtop Guitar Labeled SHERWOOD DELUXE. The original frets are in excellent condition and they show almost no wear. This was obviously one of the top models for Kay at the time with its pearloid block fingerboard inlays and fancy trim work. This guitar has a ton of potential. Make me an offer on it. I will accept the highest offer because I don't know its value and the closest thing I could find to it is basically the same guitar with Kay logo for $2000 (see item #380496130126). The action is high and it need a neckset if it is to be played normally or if you plan to use it for slide guitar it is fine for that. The neck will be easy to work with because it is not twisted and the fingerboard has normal relief, not bowed. I do not have one of the antique screw on cords so I was unable to plug it into an amp but I did test the electronics with my ohmmeter and the pickup is just fine. The original pickup is an early 'bar' type magnet with what appears to be a thick Brazilian Rosewood mount. I can't help but believe this pickup is very desirable and probably has a unique sought-after sound if it's like my experiences with other pickups from this time period when electric guitars were in their infancy. As stated, those of you who want this guitar specifically for slide music you will need to do nothing but find the right cord or replace the input jack with a standard 1/4" jack and install a set of new strings. There is a short strip of binding at the top of the back near the neck joint that has lifted and needs to be reglued (see photo). The original tuner buttons have shrunken but they perform just fine. This guitar retains all of its original patina, I have not and will not clean the guitar because many buyers prefer to leave it. I will say that if the original tortoise grain headstock veneer were polished it would bring out its beautiful colors, same with the flame maple on the top, back, and sides which are all painted sunburst. The icing on the cake with this deal is the guitar will be shipped in an original 1960s Gibson acoustic dreadnought guitar case, it will fit J45 J50 Hummingbird Dove etc... the case can easily be sold for good money if you don't want to keep it with the guitar.
