Read moreabout the condition Brand: Couesnon Bell Material: Yellow Brass Type: French Horn Skill Level: Professional Model: Single F 3rd valve ascending Country/Region of Manufacture: France Finish: unlacquered
Ascending 3rd valve, single Couesnon piston valve horn with detachable bell, which is original and very unusual for a horn of this age. Comes with a good G crook (which allows it to play as a single F horn) probably made by Raoux. Stamped with the Couesnon address and prize mark from the 1900 instrument exposition, it dates from the early 1900s. In superb condition, with a few marks from age, but no signs of major repairs or patches. The piston valves work smoothly and quietly, and all of the slides move freely. Comes with a modern Thomann screw bell case. This is a collector's item in many ways, but has been used (including a performance of Dukas' Villanelle today!) for professional performances and lecture-recitals. Ideal for historically informed performances of Dukas, Ravel, Stravinsky and Debussy amongst others. The horn is in Glasgow, and is available to try before the auction closes.
