1957 Gibson CF100-e General: With a single-coil pickup - in the neck position - Gibson's first acoustic-electric guitar paved the way for the J-160e. Specs include a 14-1/8" wide (LG sized), pointed cutaway, solid "X" braced Spruce top with scalloped braces, solid Mahogany back and sides, teardrop pickguard, upper belly bridge (belly towards sound hole), bound rosewood fingerboard with 20 frets, trapezoidal fingerboard inlays, gold decal logo, and traditional sunburst finish. Includes Gibson hard shell case with satin cape.
Condition: In my opinion, the guitar is in very good condition. Only 60-years of age, the guitar has some but little pick or buckle rash, and only a few shallow nicks. Years ago, my luthier changed the white-button Kluszon tuners. Otherwise, there is no visible evidence of factory repairs or mods.
Tone: This is a rare vintage Gibson guitar with Mahogany back and sides, and a Spruce top. Thus, the mids are bright and the top-end has a soft bass response. With a somewhat "fat" solid Mahogany neck, the guitar has plenty of volume and response, with or without the on-board electronics. The gold volume and tone knobs, and input jack are clean and have very little, if any, static back noice. The guitar's tone is not compromised by Gibson's first attempt to provide an onboard pickup to an acoustic guitar.
