The Polisi Bassoon is an American instrument, constructed in Germany, to high specification. William Polisi was a well respected Professor of Bassoon at Julliard School (New York) as well as being famous as a Bassoon soloist with the New York Philharmonic, Metropolitan Opera and Philadelphia Symphony Orchestras. He was conducted by Stravinsky and was tutored by Toscannini. Over a considerable career he became aware of the several shortcomings of the Bassoon, which limited the instrument, and in the early 1960s he was working with others such as Alan Fox and Lewis Hugh Cooper. Cooper concentrated on improved intonation and sound by refining bore shape and Polisi specialised in refinement of key mechanisms, guards and devices which would improve playability. At that time US manufacturers were importing instruments from Europe. In 1964 and 1965 Polisi patented his various improvements and sought out the best source of manufacture in Europe. His first choice was Kohlert - this is because he played a Heckel instrument and was well aware that pre WW2 instruments from this Czechoslovakian family company were virtually equivalent in sound, intonation and quality. Unfortunately WW2 had reduced Kohlert as a company, which had moved to West Germany and as they were committed to fixed price supply contracts to Conn, King and other US concerns, were unable to meet the specifications (and indeed went into liquidation). Schreiber were able to offer the facility to supply the properly seasoned Maple - having lain down stocks immediately following WW2 - and were able to machine the Bassoons to the improved specifications as per the Polisi patents. Yamaha and Heckel incorporated and still quote some of Polisi's design features in their own patents. The Polisi Bassoon is therefore of high quality. There are No others like it available and shipping will be FAST soBUY IT NOW!!!
