Up for sale, a 1959 Ampeg Rocket R12 in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This early USA-made Ampeg tube combo has many parallels with the Fender tweed-era Deluxe amps, featuring 12 watts of sweet, detailed tube tone courtesy of a dual 6V6 output section. The octal preamp gives the amp a complex midrange and dynamic bark, and while clean tones can be glassy and sweet at lower volumes, the amp really shines when you dime it out. At full volume the amp compresses a bit and cascades into saturated overdrive, and the tone sizzles and roars with the best combo amps of the era.The circuit has been thoroughly serviced, with a complete recap of both the preamp and main filters as well as mostly new signal caps including high quality Sprague orange drops on the eyelet board. Three of the pots are original, while one is a vintage replacement dating to the '70s. Both transformers are stock, and the output transformer dates to the 16th week of 1959. The faceplate boasts three distinct sounding inputs as well as Volume and Tone controls and Speed and Intensity knobs for the tremolo circuit. The speaker is an era-correct Jensen P12R with an army green frame. This speaker is worth a few hundred bucks on its own and is an ideal choice for voicing this Ampeg Rocket, with hi-fi clarity and a smooth, balanced sound. The code on the edge of the speaker frame dates it to 1953.Cosmetically, this Ampeg is very clean, with original blue sparkle tolex and a chrome faceplate that has plenty of shine left and original white silkscreen lettering (which is hard to capture in a photo, but very much intact). The baffle has been regrilled with newer Fender-style silver sparkle cloth, and the handle is a modern replacement as well. The tube chart is clean and intact on the inside of the enclosure, and the schematic is still present on the inside of the back panel. This Ampeg Rocket features an early Jensen P12R speaker, clean cosmetics, and a fully serviced circuit with stock transformers! Please check out our shop "Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar" on the web, and feel free to call us directly with any questions at 206.399.8518.
