Here is a lovely 1890's Lyon – Healy Mystic Banjo, in excellent condition. This instrument features a 30-hook pot, a mahogany neck with carved heel (mother of pearl  heart inlay on the heel cap) and a thick ebony fingerboard, and lots of bold mother of pearl inlay on the fingerboard. The Lyon and Healy firm grew out of an effort by Oliver Ditson – beginning in 1864 – to expand his wholesale musical instrument business into the US Midwest, with a facility in Chicago run by George Washburn Lyon and Patrick J. Healy.  However, by 1880, Lyon and Healy broke away from Ditson; there weren’t enough instruments available from the East (including from C F Martin) and so they set up manufacturing on their own. Lyon and Healy also launched the Washburn brand, using George Lyon’s middle name. Manufacturing ceased during the Depression. This Mystic banjo is in excellent nearly original condition and comes with a repaired original hard shell case (very rare to find such an old case). The case has a new leather handle, repairs to the wooden frame, and some new purple flannel lining but most of it is the original case, including working hinges and latches.  Looks like the original Elite tailpiece of a "no-knot" style. A metal name plate on the dowel rod identifies the banjo as a "Mystic."  Tuners are a matching set of fancy beaded ivoroid and look to be original.  The strings are red D'Addario nylon- 25-3/8" scale.  There is a vintage no-tip bridge.  The original head has been replaced with a Fiberskyn Elite brand head.  The neck is straight but could use some adjustment of the neck angle and the tension ring sticks out slightly above the fretboard where the two meet. Overall width is 11-3/4" and length is 35".Shipping will be $45 to anywhere in the contiguous 48 states and actual cost elsewhere.  Please contact me if you'd like a quote for shipping cost. It will be shipped, string tension reduced, in its case in a sturdy carton and fully insured. Thank you for reading the entire description. Please ask any questions you have before bidding.
