4 7/8 Inch Rose Brass Bell.459 inch Medium Large BoreThird Valve trigger for IntonationBeautiful EngravingExcellent Valve actionSerial Number 77,XXX- 1952No DentsThose of us that have been around for a while and a good number of younger players have come to really admire the trumpets and trombones made by the Olds company, sadly long since out of business. They made a number of professional level models in both trumpets and trombones that enabled artists to choose a top of the line instrument that best fit their playing. The trumpet that seemed to be the most chosen model is the Recording. As a trombone player, I like the Recording trombone the best of about 6 Olds pro level horns. Both trumpet and trombone have the rose brass bell that delivers a rich warm sound. This is a tone that will absolutely melt a ballad but the bell still is heavy enough to hold together at high volumes and project through the biggest big band or ensemble. This one came to me in very nice shape. Valves are very fast and smooth- Slides all work properly. I had a few dents professionally removed- it is now dent free, clean and straight. Lacquer appears to have been redone at some time in the past- I would call it 95% intact. There are some scratches on the inside of the bell as the pictures show. Factor in the really fancy engraving and you have a beautiful horn. This one was made in 1952, one of the earlier years. The horns made in Los Angeles are considered to be preferrable to the ones made in the Fullerton plant. It comes with a third valves slide trigger to aid intonation with less effort. Comes with generic case to protect the instrument and no mouthpiece. You will want to audition several to find your own best fit. This is a real classic in great shape both for playing and cosmetically. Your chance to own an increasingly rare piece of trumpet history. With new and less appealing pro trumpets approaching $3000, this should be a great value.I will ship well packed to the lower 48 states for $35 and elsewhere for actual cost by US Postal Service. Europe and Japan should expect to pay about $80 for shipping Australia about $95No Reserve or Buy It Now on this one - Auction will set the price and High Bidder Wins it!!
