800 Euro with shipping by sale   This 8 stringed, high quality Rebab is made in Kashgar, at the westernmost border of China. Kashgar lies at the junction of Central Asia, making it a meeting point for the cultures and musical styles of Taijkstan, Uzbekistan, Kazahkstan, Xinjiang. Through the years travellers and merchants have passed through the oasis of Kashgar, trading stories, conducting commerce, and of course, making music.
Our instruments are often made to order by a master craftsman. However, he is getting older and mulberry wood is becoming expensive, so place your order while we can assure you of quick service. The Tajik Rebab is a cousin to the ubiquitous Dolan Rebab. It shares a similar goat horn adornment, as well as the basic string arrangement. This rebab is faced with cowhide and strings with metal. It´s 8 strings deliver a robust sound, utilizing the sympathetic string technique common to many of our instruments. This instrument is 89cm long, and the head is 20cm wide. You can see in the picture that this is not just an every day instrument. Our master craftsmen have taken the design and pattern from their Tajik neighbors, and applied their top-notch workmanship and experience to create this beautiful instrument.In Central Asia, the rebab is the basic instrument. It can be seen at small gatherings on the farm or during long distance travel by camel. Recently, it has become an instrument through which the virtuoso musicians show their skill as well.
The history of the Rebab dates back nearly two millennia. The instrument consists of three main parts, the ear piece, handle, and the rebab head. The region is literally filled with lutes of all sizes and shapes.
