Description Brand: Ampeg Country/Region of Manufacture: United States Exact Year: 1962
Vintage Ampeg Closet Queen! Holy grail of early 6V6 tones! A 1962 Reverb R-12 in pristine original condition. The same amp that Ace Frehley called "the mini Marshall plexi"and what was used on early Stones recordings. Powered in push/pull by a pair of RCA black plate 6V6's (original Ampeg labeled Sylvania's are included though they are growing weak). The 2 preamp tubes are original Ampeg labeled Sylvania 6Sl7's. 5Y3GT rectifier. Early sophisticated cathode biased. Eyelet/turret board wiring with all original caps. Original dark blue diamond tolex in excellent condition for 55 years old. Original leather handle. Original 2 prong power cord that works fine and is in excellent condition also. Tremolo circuit and original tremolo pedal. Original Jensen 12" Special Design C12-R speaker. Some very minor fading to the chrome. Two tiny (1/16th") tears in the original tolex-- too small to photograph. Original caps show some signs of minor leak stains but are working fine. Tremolo is warm, buttery and the essence of analog. This one went into the closet not long after being sold the first time. Absolutely killer vintage tone! Around 1964, Ampeg changed this circuit and went from being powered by 6V6's (like this one) to using 7591's for the power tubes. So this one has a far different--- and by general consensus--- a far superior tone than the later Ampeg's.20.75" W x 9" D x 15.25" HOriginally, these were conservatively rated by Ampeg at 12 watts, yet probably closer to 15-17 watts especially with a sensitive, efficient modern speaker ( and if gigging, I'd recommend selling the Jensen for a tidy profit and using a Warehouse/WGS g12--- as it goes to the Cosmos of tone with a modern, efficient, sensitive speaker. But if you want pure, early rock and roll, don't change a thing). Punchy, woody cleans at low volume, but a distinctly Ampeg warm, honking Tweed tone when overdriven. Whether player or collector, this is ready to go. Quick shipping and very securely packaged. Tubes will be removed and packed separately, please let us know if you don't know how to install tubes. Original Ampeg (Sylvania) black plate 6V6 power tubes included. Payment through Paypal expected upon sale. Flat shipping to the lower 48 only through Fedex at $55. For any region outside of the lower 48 states, please contact first for a shipping quote. Any questions, please ask. Thanks!
