Fender  1962 Stratocaster  SURF GREEN  Serial # 862xx - NECK: Heel Stamp 2 DEC62B Rare Three Patent numbered Neck  and waterslide logo intact & unaltered in anyway. No additional screw holes, refinishing, refret or overspray. Original tuners, String tree. Truss rod works perfectly. The hand oils over time have given the neck an incredible feel which definitely enhances it’s playability. No buzzing or tuning issues. - BODY: Seldom seen Surf Green (1960-1965) minimal paint checking & color fade, dowels & nail hole visible / intact.  Neck pocket fully painted (Mid-Late 1962 the “paint tree”  began) Body has minor scuffs, dents (see pics) slight forearm wear to the primer coat. The cavity had a minor altering (size of a U.S. dime) at some point & refilled with old plaster and painted over the imperfection only possibly seafoam green or dark Surf Green if you will & additional pick-guard hole No other body alteration. Surf Green Nitrocellulose paint mfg. by Dupont original paint# 2461 for 1957’ Chevys. Fender adopted the use of this color from 1960 to1965; seldom used due to the added cost, work involved, the added primer coat, curing time, cost per pint, etc. These colors were re-introduced in 96’ in acrylic lacquer.  - PICKGUARD, SHIELD, Knobs & Toggle Cap: Standard 11 Hole W/B/W Nitro PB fade, KAISER FULL Aluminum Shield, Red inked code present. Witch-Staple Standard Vol /Toe 3 some knobs & original toggle & cap. - PICKUPS: Black bottomed Pickups, Ohm Readings = Neck: 6.54, Middle: 6.52 & Bridge: 6.62 - POT CODES: (2 VOL. / 1 TONE) All matching code# 301-6234. No scratching, Cutting in/out. Original 1435 Code 3-way toggle & Red SK:1x 50v Capacitor w/ yellow lead shield.  - OEM CASE: Is in good condition for its age. the snap locks are secure the spring on one clasp does'nt  work.The center snap clasp works fine. Also, comes with the original key. Brown trim lose, partially missing (See pics). ALSO INCLUDED: - i-SERIES SKB Case: Roller type & waterproof with 4 snap locks, Side and top carrying handles. (In 1962 the OEM case did its job for a guitar only costing approx. $300 dollars Though definitely not for a guitar worth significantly more! Thus, the additional case.    All the items mentioned above are included in the auction.  The guitar will be shipped in the iSERIES SKB Road Case. The original case will be shipped separately. Specs: STRATOCASTER WITH ROSEWOOD FINGERBOARD  (PRE-CBS, MFG. 1959-1965) Offset double cutaway alder body, bolt-on four-screw maple neck, 21-fret rosewood fingerboard with clay off-white dot inlays, small Strat-style headstock, six-on-one-side tuners, tremolo bridge, three-layer celluloid W/B/W greenish tint pick-guard, three single coil staggered height pickups, three knobs (v, two tone), three-way pickup switch, jack angled into the top, nickel hardware, was available in standard 3-Tone Sunburst finish & custom colors from 1959-65. (Courtesy Blue Book of Electric Guitars) Guitar Info Guitar was made at the  Fullerton Plant (Fender - Pre CBS Era), USA in the Year(s): 1962  The Fullerton factory opened in 1946, Fullerton California with the first major electric solid body guitar production began in 1950 with the Broadcaster (later known as the Telecaster). Sold in 1965 to CBS who in 1985 sold Fender to a group of private investors the plant was not included in that sale and was subsequently closed.
