Up for sale is an Alexander 103 copy. There's no engraving on it. From the previous owner: It was made in Eastern Europe in the mid 1950's, unplayable before but has been redone and well repaired. From me: It is actually a pretty good horn especially for the price. It has a nice Alex sound and plays better than some Alex 103's I have played in the past. Free blowing with a nice touch of resistance. Articulations are clear and the upper register is easier to play (coming from someone with a $6000 horn). For me, it has more core in its sound. It includes a backpack case that's light yet protective. Here are more details: This horn has a great sound but you have to be "on your game" more as there's no wiggle room in terms of slotting. The higher register on this horn is easier to play than it is on the lower register. The valve compression is middle down the road, good but there's better. Updates: My friend recently lent me his 1930's Alex 103 that plays extremely well. Comparing the two: The Alex copy sound tends to edge out later than the Alex. The Alex copy's low register holds up pretty well to the Alex 103. I'm surprised that this horn holds it own. Physical Condition: It's unlacquered, valves and slides move freely. Slight dings and dents but nothing that would effect the sound.
