Up for grabs is a beautiful player's gig built up for gigging and proven on stage and in the studio. This outfit is a 1965 & 1966 Ludwig Super Classic in excellent playing and cosmetic shape with a few light modifications that will be described drum-by-drum.13x9 RACK TOM: This is a 10xxxx serial number drum from early 1965. It came with the kit but is a slightly lighter hue than the other two drums as you can see in the photos. The wrap is in near pristine condition with no lifting or cracking. This drum has a factory diamond plate mount, not a Ludwig L-arm bracket. It is stock with no additional holes and a white felt baseball bat muffler (I removed the arm with the felt for gigging, but it will be included). Edges are factory original, white paint is factory original. Lugs have been padded with foam to silence the spring ring. Hoops are newer generation Ludwig chrome 2.3mm, replaced at some point because they were in much rounder condition. All tension rods are new Gibraltar.16x16 FLOOR TOM: This 42xxxx serial drum was made towards the end of '66 and is slightly yellower than the 13" rack tom. The wrap is in excellent shape with a very slight lift on the seam (see photo) that was sanded and glued for longevity. Drum retains it factory script logo floor tom leg brackets and factory short Ludwig legs with modern floating feet. White felt baseball bat muffler is installed. At some point, this drum was given a shallower/sharper bearing edge which is clean and could be easily reverted to a round-over by a competent drum tech if desired. This floor tom also has later model 2.3mm hoops, replaced when the 13's were swapped. All tension rods are new Gibraltar. 22x14 BASS DRUM: This 1966 42xxxx kick is obviously a showroom match to the floor tom with slightly less yellowing but still more yellow than the rack. Drum retains both original factory hoops with original WMP inlay. All original claws are present, 16 original T-handles as well. The four rods on the bottom were swapped for drum key tension rods like a newer kit due to their proximity to the floor. The consolette is in exceptional condition and has been upgraded with a Gibraltar wingnut and 8mm screw to make setting the kit up a breeze (no hex tool required). Both spurs are original, and the drum retains it original ride cymbal bracket, though no L-arm is included. Keystone badge is a bit loose, but still correctly affixed. White interior is original and has random residue from taped down blankets and such over the decades. Bearing edges are also original.This drum set was cleaned, polished, rocked, and cleaned again over the course of the last 6 years. It's been gigged and recorded, but treated with respect. If you're looking for a beautiful classic drum kit to actually play out, one that has robust hardware that isn't a pain to set up, this Super Classic is your jam. They literally don't make a kit like this anymore, especially with that beautiful vintage WMP wrap. This is a vintage drum kit listed by a private seller.
