1984 USA Fender Fullerton Stratocaster.  This is the Dan Smith Era, Free-Flyte Tremolo model that was produced under the direction of Fender's legendary Vice President of Marketing - Dan Smith, as an attempt to make the Stratocaster more competitive in the mid-1980's marketplace, and introduce engineering improvements to the then 29 year old Stratocaster.  This particular model was produced for two years, in 1983 and 1984.  The neck heel stamp dates this as a late 1984 model, although this particular Strat has been significantly modified from it's original production specs.  This axe is a Player, not a collector model - it packs a punch and has been used it's whole life.  A very solid, reliable guitar - it's showing it's age nonetheless.  She may be a little "long-in-the-tooth", but she still has smoking hot looks! A size-able contingent of players and Fender enthusiasts in 1983 were less than excited about many of the changes on these "new" Strats.  The radical new Free-Flyte trem design went against convention, and the loss of the 2nd tone control knob and the movement of the input jack to the pickguard were chief among the complaints.  This Strat was fairly extensively modified and set up to alleviate most of the complaints about these guitars by it's original owner.  Paint fade around the professionally routed jack cup indicates that the work was done very close to the time that the guitar was purchased.  The pickguard was modified to accommodate the 2nd tone knob, and the nut slot was modified to accept a Fender roller nut.  The Tremolo was set up to stablize it's operation and improve tuning stability for the guitar - the Bridge is now Decked, and it works great! The guitar is still sporting its factory original IVORY color, but it has mellowed significantly to a beautiful, creamy tone.  It exhibits plenty of paint checking and bumps and bruises from 33 years of use, but it is structurally solid and plays beautifully. The Tremolo bar is an aftermarket bar, but it snaps in and works great.  The wiring for this Strat is all modern, but the Neck and Mid pickups are vintage Seymour Duncan Stacked Humbuckers that pegged my ohmeter at a Classic Strat range of 6.77k and 6.63k ohm respectively.  The Bridge pickup is also a Seymour Duncan stacked humbucker - a more recent model that pegs an aggressive 10.4k ohms!  This Strat is set up well and sounds fantastic in both clean and break up effect. This Strat comes with it's original, albeit totally and truly humble hardshell case.  The case looks like it's been in every bar and honkey-tonk between Gainesville, FL and Seattle, WA, but it still shuts with a little care and effort, and it does protect the guitar well - No bad odors - so that's good.  This Strat will be carefully packed and shipped to the new owner within 1 business day of the listing close.  Shipping is just $24.75 to any address within the Continental USA. (AK, HI and PR will be $9 extra).  Sorry, I am not set up to handle International shipments, so this Strat is not available outside the USA.  Please contact me with any questions - I have extra pics available if you want to see more views of this old Strat. Thanks for looking!
