Manufactured in the USA by Kay, with same body as their Value Leader / Style Leader lines. This Custom Kraft version was only available in 1961-62 and has a black sparkle finish with very cool checkerboard binding on the top, back and neck. Very hard to find in any condition, this guitar is as clean as they come and has been professionally set up with a comfortable, slinky action and plays perfectly up and down the neck. Slight play wear on neck (see photo 11) usual paint rub-off on headstock (see photos 6 & 11) and some slight paint damage on the heel (see photo 10) are the only indications this guitar has been played...... The tone is pure early rock & roll jangle, with balanced, strong output from both original DeArmond single coil pickups - super warm and punchy with deep, round low-end and sparkling, glassy treble. Plenty of twang on tap. The neck has a medium C profile, super straight and with working truss rod and is glued and screwed for great sustain. Very cool medieval looking lion headstock logo with Kluson Double Line tuners that work exactly the way they should. This is absolutely one of the coolest looking vintage Americana guitars with the combination of shiny chrome pickup covers, black sparkle finish and checkerboard binding. Includes original beaten up but functional cardboard case – more for period vibe than as way to protect your valuable vintage instrument. See photo 12. All original except for strap buttons and tailpiece screwsFront and back undamaged with great shine. No buckle rash, wear patterns, chips or scratchesSides 100% intact with no damage but with some veining in places (see photo 3)Checkered binding 100% clean and tight throughoutNicely figured rosewood fingerboard with unworn frets (see photo 9)All chrome superclean – without rust or dings4 superclean Kay Barney Kessel knobsPickguard in 100% condition – no chips or scratches and nice vintaged parchment color.
