Up for sale, a 1998 Fender Telecaster Custom '62 vintage reissue electric guitar in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This "Crafted in Japan" Telecaster is a rare model, meant only for the Japanese domestic market, and features a Candy Apple Red finish and aged white binding on the top and back of the instrument for a classic Fender look. Officially model TL62B-80TX, this guitar comes stock from the factory with USA Custom Shop Texas Special black bobbin pickups. If you're looking for a pickup that has a bit more kick than your traditional Tele pickup, with twang, snap and snarl, the Texas Special is a perfect choice. Even with the slightly increased output from the pickups, the guitar still has Fender's signature clarity and chime, with biting treble response in the bridge position and smooth, sweet tones at the neck. The guitar weighs in at 7lbs 14oz. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Tele is strung with 10-46 strings and has low, slinky action. The one-piece maple neck profile has a quintessential medium C shape that borders on the more slender side of things, with sloping shoulders and a very fast, comfortable feel. The slab rosewood fretboard boasts Fender's traditional 7 1/4" fretboard radius, with a 1 5/8" nut and vintage style fretwire that's virtually unplayed. The frets show barely a hint of wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3, and virtually no wear up the neck, with well rounded fret crowns. The guitar has a responsive truss rod and plays cleanly in all registers with no buzzing or dead spots. On the headstock, the Kluson style Gotoh tuning machines turn smoothly and hold pitch well. All of the stock electronics work as they should, and the chrome hardware is very clean. The "Pat. Pending" bridge plate and finely grooved metal saddles are consistent with 1962 Fender spec too, and the plate is also stamped with an A prefix serial number used early in the Crafted in Japan era. Cosmetically, this is a well cared for and sparingly played instrument, with a couple extremely faint finish scratches in the clear coat on the back and one tiny nick on the top near the bass side lower out edge. The Candy Apple Red gloss finish is vibrant and rich with a hint of metalflake sparkle. Overall, this is a very clean and well kept guitar with USA-made Custom Shop Fender pickups and rare custom color looks!
