1975 Teruaki Nakade C15 Classical Guitar
Solid Spruce Top
Solid Brazilian Rosewood Back and Sides
Bone Nut (52mm) and Bone Saddle
660mm Scale LengthThis guitar was made by Teruaki Nakade (son of the famous Sakazo Nakade. Who is considered to be the father of Japanese classical guitar building). The price of this guitar in 1975 was 150,000 Yen, which is the same as that of Masaru Kohno No 15 with the only difference being that this Nakade has solid Brazilian rosewood back and sides while the Kohno only has solid Indian rosewood. Of course, since Masaru Kohno got famous he was able to get away with selling a lesser guitar in terms of materials than his competitors. The condition of the guitar is excellent for its age. The top only has a couple of notable dings below the bridge that can be seen on one of the pictures while the back/sides and neck/headstock are quite clean. Not sure if the guitar is French polished or finished with lacquer but the finish is very thin and does not restrict the top from producing great sound. The tuners have been changed to new ones as the original ones were worn out. The new ones are Gotoh. This guitar sounds like the professional level instrument it was intended to be – high volume, great clarity and sustain and the sound does not fade down to the bottom of the fretboard. I have had Kohnos from the same time and this guitar is on par with Kohno model 20 in terms of sound and materials used. The action setup makes it very easy to play (less than 3 mm treble side and less than 4 mm bass side at the 12th fret). There are no buzzing or playability issues anywhere along the neck. The frets are in good shape and have been polished and leveled and the fingerboard conditioned. The neck is straight and there is room on the saddle to go lower with the action if needed. The guitar will come with a set of La Bella 850 Gold nylon strings. These are among the most generic nylon strings available and allow the guitar to bring out its voice without coloring or exaggerating it. This guitar does not need carbon strings to sound great. It has more than enough volume and clarity with the most basic nylon strings. For a sound sample of this exact guitar, please see the following video on youtube:
