Gretsch USA Custom SB 16x18 Modern Drum Shop NYC Nesting Bass Drum
I bought this brand new as a complete Gretsch 16x18 new old stock bass drum from a Gretsch dealer in Milwaukee WI. I then sent it to Daniel Jodocy of Modern Drum Shop NYC to have it professionally customized to be a nesting bass drum. This was made shortly after Modern Drum Shop NYC closed unexpectedly. Also why there's no mds badge. My idea was to build a kit around this piece by piece.Drum was originally a rosewood satin oil finish. This was a virgin drum no mount. I had Daniel wrap it in blue glass glitter. I prefer glass glitter wraps because they are thick and heavy and I chose blue because Jelly Bean drum color choices look good with a blue base. I do feel that Gretsch drums and shells are magical (I own many) and if there was any drum to do this with it would be this year, era and size; versus something older of course. If you're going to nest up to a 15x15 floor tom with die-cast rims having the 16 inch depth is key. I do have a 15x14 floor tom for sale as well. Feel free to inquire.Original gretsch reverse counter cut bearing edges.Original badge included.Original gretsch bass drum/tom mount included. Gretsch mount does not fit drum. With the right tools and a steady hand and or with the help of a pro shop it would be easy to make this simple minor opening of the holes to fit the gretsch mount. Joe at Modern Drum Shop was using Yamaha simple brackets on everything which is why I went with this since I have other Modern Drum Shop drums.Original Silver sealer inside.Original claws.Original lugs. This was NOT a broadkaster series/original standard chrome lugs and claws.Original tension rods. Original paper tag.Modern Precision Drum CO. spurs/legs added & original leg mount holes professionally dowelled/plugged by Daniel. Tower Fasteners CO. stainless steel latches and backing plates that allow for easy opening & closing when nesting a floor tom inside.Up to a 15" floor tom can nest inside this bass drum. Yamaha bass drum mount bracket for mount tom/hex arm. Hex arm not included. Vent hole with chrome grommet added by Daniel; which is on bottom side of drum. Original vent hole where badge was left unplugged/covered-hidden by wrap of course and under Yamaha mount. Precision Drum Co. 10 ply 1 3/4" wide bass drum hoops. Great for holding low medium or high tuning.Remo heads do not fit - Although it sounds like Remo just came out with heads that would fit.
7 brand new Aquarian & Evans heads included! 3 American Vintage/Superkick I & II/one coated Evans/one black Aquarian with inner tone ring-Could be used as a resonant or a batter side.I bought this for $1000.00 & then spent $500 on parts n labor for nesting conversion; and then the heads. GM4244SWW 56335 model & serial.I don't have the original spurs anymore and I would prefer to keep the original bass drum hoops.Excellent almost showroom condition/apartment kept. Never gigged with & I wasn't sure if I was going to build a set around this so I did not have the badge installed. I did use a nice pedal protector for the bass drum hoop/there's a little mark from that but no significant wear.Unfortunate circumstances are requiring me to sell most of my vintage and custom drum gear please inquire.Doing my best to be fair about price and certainly keeping in mind the reality that a nice high-end custom bass drum is going to list certainly for over a thousand. I have two other mds nesting 14x16 bass drums also made from gretsch & pork pie shells that Daniel made for me and those were $1025.00 to make (also for sale*) You wont be disappointed. Happy to chat. Always preferred Modern Drum Shop over many of the other shops and I prefer their nesting sets. Anyone who knows Joe and Daniel and Willie KNOW they do great work. I miss that shoppe. I've owned a lot of Modern Drum Shop nesting sets and they've all been incredible and I'm sad to see them go. I don't own a car in Chicago and use public transit. Glad to know Daniel is still around as many of you know. This bass drum sounds incredible. Shell is not thin. Would be an outstanding 18 for gigging and touring. I do find Gretsch drums the most magical and finding appropriate Gretsch drums and shells to make nesting sets out of has been always preferred by my ears & playing. No reasonable offer refused. I have nothing to hide I am a vintage and custom freak, I've worked for a few vintage shops, have had 100% eBay feedback since 2001 and know how to professionally ship all over the world.Please ask any questions ahead of time before auction ends and please let me know if you would like more photos.
