Description Exact Year: 1961 Brand: Gibson
From the secret vault the old War Horse rides forth to do musical battle once again. This auction is for a 1961 Gibson L-5 CES Archtop guitar. This guitar was a custom factory order, wired for stereo, with a Varitone and a finger tailpiece The guitar has the original pickups, with a PAF in the neck position and an early Patent Number in the bridge. The guitar has a stereo input jack, and includes the original stereo cable. The guitar has a standard seven position Gibson Varitone control as well as the standard dual volume and dual tone controls along with a 3-way toggle switch.for pickup selection. The guitar comes with a new Gibson Custom Shop L5 case and a new Small Dog case cover. The serial number is 16677. The serial number is stamped on the back of head stock and it is also on the label inside the body. The guitar has a sharp cutaway. The truss rod has the word "Stereo" on it. The instrument has some finish checking and dings. There is finish wear on the back of the neck. There is some wear and tarnish on the pickup covers and tuners. The standard tailpiece was replaced at the factory with a Gibson finger tailpiece that would normally be found on their Citation model. Three of the fine tuner/finger height screws are missing. This is the way I purchased the guitar and has not been an issue although it would be nice to have all of them. Normally, I use a bridge like this to set the string angle off the back of the bridge and just rely on the tuners for tuning. There is a repaired crack on the top. There is some fret wear and a little fingerboard wear but nothing significant. I am the second owner of the guitar, The first owner was a studio player who did a lot of recording with the instrument. Other specifications are as follows:

Scale length: 25 1/2
Number oi Frets: 20 fretsTwenty two L-5 CES guitars were built in 1961.This guitar comes from Gibson's Golden Age and it is a living example of the magic of PAF pickups in a well-made Archtop guitar. It plays great and sounds fantastic. Warm, sparkling fat tones emanate effortlessly from this very special instrument. There is a fixed delivery charge. The guitar will be well packed for delivery and insured for shipment. Check out my perfect feedback and bid with confidence. I will only sell within the continental US to a validated PayPal address. All sales are final unless I have misrepresented the description. Please ask all questions before bidding. The guitar is for sale locally so I reserve the right to end the auction at any time. Good luck!
