Up for sale, a 1966 Fender Showman tube amplifier head in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Freshly serviced by our techs here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this amp boasts a complete fresh tube set, with a matched quad of JJ 6L6 power tubes. Completely recapped as well and outfitted with a modern three-prong power cable, this Showman is ready for stage and studio use.The most powerful of Fender's Blackface-era "piggyback" amplifiers, the Showman is analogous to a Twin sans-reverb, delivering 85 watts of pure, detailed Fender clean tone. There's a bit of mild compression and breakup at the amp's highest volumes, but the circuit stays remarkably balanced, full, and clear below about 7 on the volume dial and is a perfect platform for pedals too! The Vibrato channel boasts that signature Fender effect, with a deep pulse and wide range of speeds. The circuit retains all of the original transformers which date to '66, and the original CTS pots and chassis stamp date to 1966 as well. On the tube chart, the "PD" date code translates to April of 1966. In the preamp, the signal caps have mostly been swapped out for high quality Sprague orange drops, and the bypass caps and main filters have been replaced as well to ensure that the amp is operating exactly as it did when it left the factory over 50 years ago.The original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth are intact, with only light wear and mild aging of the grillcloth. The original logo, chassis straps, piggyback clip bars, and sphinx glides (feet) are all present, along with the stock witch hat knobs. There is mild pitting and wear on the original faceplate, while the backplate and back panel are modern replacements that match original spec.
