Up for auction is a nice old antique early 1900s 2 pc curly maple back German "Stradiuarius" viola for setup/restoration. The nicely figured 2 pc.curly maple back measures 15 1/2 by 8 7/8 inches. There are no bassbar or soundpost cracks on the viola. The scroll and pegbox are in good condition and the neck is solid. The fingerboard and pegs are ebony. The pegs turn smoothly and the fingerboard is in good condition. The soundpost is standing inside the viola and there are no open seams. The viola had been setup with Tonica strings that are in like new condition as they look like they have not been played on. The viola is labelled as a "Copie of Antonius Stradiuarius made in Germany". The viola is for setup/restoration. The viola has age related scratches/wearmarks on the varnish (please check pics). The top of the viola has a solid repair on the bass side from the saddle area up to the top of the F hole. The repair is stable and holding (please check pics).
