Welcome to Yung Flutes Shakuhachi. Perry Yung trained in Japan under Kinya Sogawa for professional shakuhachi crafting in the Chikusing Tamai (Jiari - fine-tuned) and Watazumi (jinashi/hotchiku - natural bore) lineages. He is a multi-grant recipient from the Japan United States Friendship Commission (2003) and Asian Cultural Council (2014) specializing in shakuhachi.
"Over the past four decades, I have seen the cost of good bamboo shakuhachi from Japan go up and up. They have now become more than many of my students are willing or able to spend. This is especially so with people just starting off on their shakuhachi journeys. Recently, I asked Perry if he had any reasonably priced shakuhachi for sale. He sent me two of his Tensei flutes. They were exactly what I was after. I've only seen two of Perry's Tensei flutes so far, but they certainly won't be the last I'll be getting for my students. Knowing Perry's penchant for perfection, I can comfortably give his flutes my highest recommendation." ," - Riley Lee, Dai Shihan, Organizer of the World Shakuhachi Festival, Sydney, Australia 2008. - Riley Lee
My apologies, this flute just sold to a Walk-in. I'll have another shakuhachi in this place tomorrow.- Perry. Details

It is perfect for classical and modern music. Or, open for Honkyoku zen music. On the Japanese market place for professional shakuhachi, this one would fall in the $1600 price range. Please know that the standard shakuhachi length is 1.8 in D for lessons with a traditional teacher of music. "Perry's sensitivity to aesthetics and his technical skills are so honed that he can be trusted with even the most delicate repairs to priceless instruments. The problem for us is that often that you may find a great craftsman or a superlative musician, but it is hard to find both wrapped up in one. In the case of the Shakuhachi, this explains why so few really fine flutes are being produced these days. It is just too hard to develop two careers in our fast paced world, and be up to the standards of the past. But that is what Perry aims for- a target that we all would like to reach with some satisfaction in our lifelong pursuits." - Daniel Nyohaku Soergel, Shakuachi, teacher Shihan (Master), 5/2012

Includes my Introductory Booklet and CD, leather utaguchi cap, durable corduroy bag, Tsuyutoshi moisture draw cloth and plastic storage bag - every you need to get started on this wonderful journey.
