Up for sale, a 1966 Epiphone Olympic Double in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order.  Made in the USA by Gibson at their Kalamazoo factory and sharing the hardware and electronics with the "Melody Maker" line of instruments, the Olympic is more visually striking and much rarer than its Gibson cousins. This is a particularly nice example of the Olympic, with a very clean and unfaded sunburst finish and near spotless original chrome hardware. Featuring a solid mahogany body and pair of robust single coil pickups, this guitar combines the snap and twang of a Fender with the fuller midrange and low end punch that mahogany provides. And you simply can't find a much lighter guitar, with this Olympic weighing a mere 6lbs 2oz! Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, the Olympic can't be beat for straight to the point, raw tone and great playability. The neck has a C profile that starts out moderately slim down at the 1 9/16" nut and quickly gets chunkier as you move up the fretboard, reaching "baseball bat" depths at the higher registers and filling the palm comfortably. The original frets are in great shape with their full, original height and only faint wear on the crowns of the plain strings of frets 1-5, with virtually no fretwear up the neck. The action stays low and slinky in all registers, with no buzzing or dead spots and a neck that is arrow straight with a responsive truss rod. The headstock sports Epiphone's signature "batwing" shape, with original Kluson double line nickel plated tuning machines that turn smoothly and hold pitch well. A clean stamped serial number dating to 1966 is also present on the back of the headstock. On the body, the electronics work as they should, with the original wiring harness and untouched solder joints. The CTS pots date to the 30th week of 1966.  All of the original hardware is intact including the compensated bridge which can also be used as a wraparound tailpiece if you desire to bypass the vibrato unit. The Lyre Vibrola is an extremely responsive vibrato unit and a wonderfully reliable piece that jumps back into tune well and responds with great nuance and subtlety for surfy shimmies and deeper dives.Cosmetically, the guitar shows some obligatory small dings and nicks from honest use, with only one of note on the top behind the vibrato unit. There is gorgeous, light lacquer checking across the entire instrument, and a few small marks on the neck profile as well, but nothing that affects playability. The sunburst nitro lacquer finish is 100% original with no touchups or overspray and this is a classic example of one of the cooler Kalamazoo "student" models, perfect for studio and gigging use.
The original gray chipboard form-fit case is included.
