Gretsch SSB Shell Modern Drum Shop NYC 14x16 Nesting Bass Drum Blue Glass Glitter I bought a wrapped 16x16 ssb gretsch shell on ebay that was a great candidate for a conversion.I then sent it to Daniel Jodocy of Modern Drum Shop NYC to have it professionally customized to be a nesting bass drum. This was made shortly after Modern Drum Shop NYC closed unexpectedly. Also why there's no mds badge. My idea was to build a kit around this piece by piece. This is basically the same style 16 inch bass drums that they were putting out before closing.Same style, look, lugs, same riser plate etc.I had Daniel wrap it in blue glass glitter. I prefer glass glitter wraps because they are thick and heavy and I chose blue because Jelly Bean drum color choices look good with a blue base. I do feel that Gretsch drums and shells are magical (I own many.)Gretsch style reverse round over bearing edges beautifully done by Daniel. They are in great condition sorry I did not get a photo of them let me know if you would like to see them nothing to hide they are beautiful.Tower Fasteners Co. Latches and backing plates/stainless steel.Gretsch style copy lugs. They are still available.Original gretsch ssb badge included.Original orange paper tag worn but visible.Original silver sealer inside.Quality vintage style claws.Quality tension rods. Yamaha mount bracket for mount tom. Joe was using simple standard Yamaha Hardware and I have other mds & gretsch drums with the same Yamaha brackets Etc. The mounting hole pattern is not that far off from a Gretsch USA custom.Hex arm not included.Precision Drum Co. 10 ply 1 3/4" wide bass drum hoops. Great for holding low medium or high tuning. Precision Drum Co. Spurs/legs.High quality heavy duty matching backing screws.I most likely padded the spring lugs myself I can't recall but I wouldn't put it past myself I always do; I believe Daniel does as well.Daniel plugged/dowelled the original lugs holes so the placement of the lugs could be that of a bass drum and further back. He did a great job and of course the wrap covers it. He painted dowelled ends a gray.Up to a 13x13 with die cast rims can nest inside this bass drum. I do have a 13x13 for sale separately that would nest inside this bass drum as seen in the pics. Adjustable & removable riser plate included. Remo 16" bass drum heads-Barely used coated emperor and a new clear powerstroke 3. Either one on either side would sound great.This bass drum sounds INCREDIBLE tuned low-medium-high.-Super round badge or punch.Excellent condition overall. Used only here and there for rehearsals and gigs. Has seen No touring. This would be an excellent gigging and touring bass drum.Minor/ almost unnoticeable little wear mark on batter side hoop near the 7oclock area; otherwise very clean.I spent about $1,025 building this ground up. Not far off if you're going to build one up yourself and or order one from one of the shops. I do find this is the most user-friendly Riser plate for a 16 inch bass drum ever. Guarantee this is going to be the best sounding 16 inch bass drum you've ever heard.Shell is not thin. Not too thick or anything but just wanted to mention that it's not too thin. This turned out to be a great shell to use for a bass drum.Only the 14x16 nesting bass drum descibed is for sale the other pictures are for reference only and are for sale separately.Unfortunate circumstances are requiring me to sell most of my vintage and custom drum gear please inquire.You wont be disappointed. I've owned a lot of Modern Drum Shop nesting sets and they've all been incredible and I'm sad to see them go. I don't own a car in Chicago and use public transit. Glad to know Daniel is still around as many of you know. This bass drum sounds incredible. Would be an outstanding 16 for gigging and touring. I do find Gretsch drums the most magical and finding appropriate Gretsch drums and shells to make nesting sets out of has been always preferred by my ears & playing. No reasonable offer refused.
