SELLING OFF MY COLLECTION #7 I have decided to sell off my collection of almost 100 stringed instruments, a collection acquired over the past 55+ years. I will be listing approximately one such instrument each week.  This is the seventh of these to be listed, and is a bright-sounding, easy-playing violin that is about 85 years old.  It is a full-sized (4/4) violin, and its measurements are as follows: 14 and 1/8 in. (measured along the back minus the button), and 23 and 1/4 in. overall, and it is therefore a 4/4, full-sized violin.  Maximum width of the upper bout is 6 and 7/16 in. and of the lower bout is 8 in. The instrument has a wonderfully rich honey-brown varnish with a nice all-around craquelure indicative of its age. This violin may well be French, although I can't be sure, being a violinist and devotee of string instruments rather than a luthier or violin expert.  It does have a label, but to my (untrained) eyes it appears to be a false one. (I do know that genuine Eugene Langonet instruments are very highly-prized --, an E. Langonet cello recently sold for $13,000!).  The label reads as follows:  "fait par Eugene Langonet / luthier a Paris [Nantes] l'an 1930" The word "Paris" is crossed out and the new location, "Nantes", is written in. This wonderful violin has longish and elegant lines, and is in very good shape structurally, having survived all its years without a single crack.  It is relatively light in weight and is a pleasure to play, facilitating fast passage work. The tone is consistent from the lowest to highest notes. I would describe the voice of this violin as "bouncy", bright yet silken, a combination brought about by years of having been lovingly played. The fittings are of ebony except for the new tailpiece which is of carbon fiber and has convenient built-in fine tuners. The strings were replaced on this violin and are Tonicas.  Along with the violin will be included a good quality modern bow, (probably pernambuco), marked W. Sarhan, Paris  The violin will be shipped in the old case it came in, but should the winner want to upgrade to a good-quality contemporary violin case I can alternatively ship it in a new rectangular case for an additional $135.00 (Please indicate if this is your preference so I can send a revised billing)I will also include, as a bonuses, a brand new adjustable Everest shoulder-rest, a cake of rosin, and a brand new 3 in 1 electronic tuner/metronome.  This will make for a complete violin kit, equally perfect for an advanced student or for an experienced older player. The instrument will be securely packaged and shipped FREE anywhere within the lower 48 states. (Shipping to other destinations to be calculated). This violin is being sold as is, with a money-back return policy of 14 days, the buyer paying the cost of return shipping.   All questions will be answered promptly and to the best of my ability.
