Vintage 1959 Buffet Professional Bass Clarinet - gorgeous sound
Estimated price for orientation: 2 350 $
Category: Clarinets
Class:
Description Brand: Buffet Crampon Body Material: Wood Key: Bb Skill Level: Professional Type: Bass
This is a wonderful Buffet Professional Bass Clarinet from 1959 - crafted during the "Golden Era" of Buffet's manufacturing, when the wood was tight and the worksmanship solid. Sounds gorgeous - really resonates in the lower register and sings beautifully in the upper register due to the register vent on the neck. If you've ever struggled to get the high notes on a bass clarinet with a solid neck then you're in for a treat - those pesky high notes just pop on this one. Pads were new several years ago but it hasn't been played much since then. It's playable as is, sounds sweet as can be, but it would be even better if a tech looked it over, oiled the keys and checked to see that the pads are still seated and sealing well. It had a metal badge removed from the top joint a long time ago and the holes were never filled in, but they don't go through the body. Same with one spot on the back - the ring for the neckstrap was removed and not filled in but again, doesn't go through to the bore so it's only a cosmetic issue. The thumbrest ring is still there for neckstrap use.Plays to low Eb, has the extra left hand Eb/Ab key that's pretty standard on professional bass clarinets. No mouthpiece included - most professionals have one they already like. If you're purchasing for an advancing student and need a mouthpiece, please feel free to contact me and we'll work something out based on the recipient's playing style.Comes in a replacement Buffet case in fair condition. The latch works just fine but the zipper pulls are broken. I put a split-ring on one side to pull the zipper around. If you would like more pictures or angles, just let me know. This clarinet is mine, in my possession, and I know what it is and how to play it - I've been playing 20+ years so I'd be happy to answer any questions you have.Good luck!
