Early 1980s Japan Westone Thunder 1-A Solid Body guitar with Period hard case This early 1980’s Westone Thunder 1A guitar is in pretty good shape. It’s got all of the original items and gives that 80’s howl. It’s on the slightly weighty side (at around 8.5lbs) but that’s to be expected from a Solid guitar made from Ash, Walnut and Maple. It was produced in Matsumoku, Japan. Home of many of the best guitars from the 1980’s. The Matsumoku guitars are all now very collectible. This guitar is supplied with a period-correct Westone hard case. However, it’s from a Westone bass, so it has been slightly “adapted” in some of the padding areas. The headstock retains the original Westone Tuners. They work well. The action is very good, as you’d expect with a truss rod installed. The Rosewood fingerboard has plenty of life in it and the jumbo frets are the same. The original circuitry is retained. For a 1980’s guitar, they were pretty comprehensive. I’ve seen a few that have been adapted, but this Westone Thunder 1A even retains the original control knobs. The active circuitry has a 3-way selector swith, master volume, Passive Tone, Equaliser tone. The original brass coloured hardware has oxidised a bit but it’s not unsightly. The body is laminated Ash with Maple and Walnut. Overall, this is a good, honest, example of a Westone Thunder 1A guitar. Ideal for a player / collector.
