Up for sale, a 2004 Fender Precision Bass in exceptional condition and perfect working order. Nothing screams quintessential bass tone like a Fender Precision. Looking to capture the magic that made the early 1960's split-coil P Bass so loved, Fender Japan released this '62 reissue with the same cosmetic appointments, as well as the warmth, articulation and fundamental thump that defines the Precision tone. The bass boasts the classic combination of an alder body and a rosewood board, giving the instrument both a great attack and a richness that has been the sonic signature of this model for decades. The bass weighs in at 8lbs 14oz and balances well on a strap. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this bass is strung with roundwound 45-100 strings and plays well comfortable action and solid intonation.Produced exclusively for the Japanese domestic market, this model has been recently discontinued, and is quite rare outside of Japan. The quality is exceptional, and the "Crafted in Japan" instruments exemplify the attention to detail and dedication on the part of Fender Japan to deliver instruments that have both an alluring vintage look and tone to match. The neck has a comfortable medium C shaped profile with full shoulders and more depth in the higher registers of the fretboard. The generous slab rosewood fretboard has a dark, stripey grain pattern with slender vintage-style frets that show virtually no wear and have perfectly rounded crowns. This bass is very easy and rewarding to play, and the instrument frets cleanly with an arrow straight neck and no buzzing or dead spots. The nut has a full 1 3/4" width, with a 7 1/4" vintage spec fretboard radius, and 34" scale. On the headstock, the vintage style clover button tuning machines turn smoothly and hold pitch well and the face of the headstock has a classic Pre-CBS style "spaghetti" logo. The back of the headstock even has a third strap button, keeping this instrument period correct right down to the smallest detail. The traditional electronics work as they should, with the original pickup wired to Master Volume and Tone controls with knurled metal knobs. The reddish brown tortoise pickguard provides great contrast to the lightly aged Olympic White finish, and the chrome bridge shines like new. This bass is in great cosmetic shape, with only a few stray faint scuffs and scratches in the clear coat of the finish and a tiny nick or two around the body contours that doesn't penetrate the finish. Overall, this is a clean and well kept Precision Bass that plays and sounds great, with a quality and tone that meets Fender Japan's high standards. The original Fender gigbag is included.
