Up for sale, a 1962 Epiphone Sorrento, model E452TD, in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Featuring the original pair of nickel cover PAF mini humbuckers, this Sorrento is a rare and early example that is 100% original aside from a professional refret and newer Gibson ABR-1 bridge. Produced in the USA under the ownership of Gibson at their Kalamazoo, Michigan factory, this Epiphone Sorrento is a very well cared for and properly maintained vintage guitar.
Essentially a humbucker equipped version of Gibson's ES-125TD model, the Sorrento is in a class all its own, with a fully hollow 16" wide body and a clear, bell-like tone that has the fullness of a humbucker and the sparkle and top end of a single coil. These early mini humbuckers are glassy and rich, with more growl and cut in the bridge position, and a neck pickup that has the girth and detail you desire. Acoustically, the guitar has a defined, powerful tone that barks with surprising projection and attack, sonic properties which are also evident in the plugged in sound of the instrument. This Sorrento weighs only 5lbs 10oz and balances well on a strap. The guitar has also been professionally setup with 11-50 strings here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar.The neck has a comfortable medium C profile that is fairly slender down at the nut in terms of overall depth, growing a touch chunkier in the higher registers of the fretboard. The Brazilain rosewood fretboard features the pearl dot inlays only seen on the earliest Sorrentos too. The guitar has been professionally refretted recently, and the current jumbo frets have plenty of height and life, currently showing virtually no wear with well rounded crowns. The nut measures a full 1 11/16" in width, a real rarity on these models, as Gibson/Epiphone started narrowing the nut width on all Epiphone models in mid '63. Only models from 1960-early '63 have the coveted full 1 11/16" width, and production totals for these early years of the Sorrento model are very small. On the headstock, the original Kluson Deluxe single line tuning machines are intact with clean white buttons. All of the electronics work as they should, with the previously noted original Gibson nickel cover mini humbucker and an untouched wiring harness with stock reflector cap knobs. The bridge is a modern Gibson Historic aged ABR-1, which matches the patina on the original trapeze tailpiece. The rosewood bridge base is original, as is the white three-ply pickguard with original Epiphone Epsilon "E" sticker.Cosmetically, this is a clean and original Sorrento with a vibrant  and 100% original Sunburst finish that shows zero touchup or overspray. There is vertical lacquer checking across the body and a few small scuffs and nicks on the instrument as a whole, but no serious wear of any kind. The guitar is crack-free, and the neck was reset in the past to meet the body at the ideal angle. While there is some light finish chipping around the heel from then the reset was done, the joint is very solid.
A modern tweed hardshell case is included.
