Description
Made by Djalma Julliot this is a very beautiful classic French flute. There is no sure way to date this instrument but the auction house I acquired it from, who are fairly expert with French flutes, dated it at 1890-1900. It has also been suggested that since it doesn’t have a serial number it places it during the time that Mason was running the company, which would probably be the 1920s. The toneholes are silver and the body is probably plate, although the is 100% coverage so it is hard to say from a visual inspection. This flute has just been fully restored by Jeff Denning in Baltimore and is a wonderful looking and playing example of an early 20th century French flute. It features the extended foot joint tenon often used by Julliot and possibly of his invention. This looks quite similar to a “Foster extension” but is not the same thing. It may some acoustical affect as it extends the bore down to the D hole. This instrument comes with a regulation guarantee of 6-months from Mr. Denning. This does include the original case although I was advised by my tech that it had had some mildew and he advised against using it. I haven’t used it but I think it is basically a quite decent case and should just need a proper cleaning. If you are seriously interested in this flute I would be happy to demonstrate it and answer specific questions over Skype - please contact me.All flute sales are final
