Jerome Bonaparte Squier is known as the "American Stradavari". Production of J B Squier violins was about 600 in total. This is an early one from 1887 and is number 86 .Squier developed varnishes to a beautiful finish , and this is the original finish. The case is in good condition , works well, and is included. The violin is in good overall solid condition with the sound post in place' The photos show 3 less than perfect issues.There are 3 tight small cracks, a 2.5 inch long left of the tailpiece that does not appear to be all the way to the bottom under the chin rest.Right side crack from bottom to the sound hole is about 4 and1/2 inches, and one 3/8 inches from the same sound hole to the side. This sound hole also has some warping. And a small side seperation from the back near the neck is about 1 and 3/8 inches. Back measures 14 inches in length. The top wood grain is consistent and tight. The back and sides are a dramatic , appealing figured maple as pictured orange brownish red. Shipping time varies.
